Windows starts from RT 8.ane and after some updates (about 70) it updates the Surface firmware and switch to Windows 8.ane RT update (ane). From that a few more updates and than my Surface tin can't find whatever windows updates and can't install Shop Apps.
The Windows Update keeps being stuck on "serching for updates" forever and the Store apps won't install giving me an mistake nigh my boring cyberspace connectedness.
I know for sure that the last Update is the update 3 for Win RT which I won't ever be able to install. I'thou pretty sure that some update screwed my Windows Update center. I've re-installed a fresh new Win few times and alwyas got stuck at this point.
Any help?

I take a very similar problem at the moment. I refreshed my surface two last week as the storage had filled upward and couldn't be cleared by any other normal ways. After reset, the first batch of updates would install but later on would get stuck on the "searching for updates". I have reset several times with the same problem occurring each fourth dimension. Finally I reset using a usb recovery following the guide given on windows central forums (wont permit me post link)
This time afterward installation, fifty-fifty on the outset check for updates, it gets stuck. Been running at present for over 24 hours and still zilch.
Hopefully someone on here will know the answer. I will follow this thread with interest.

Typical, no sooner had I written the post above so the search for updates finally finished afterward 25 hours. 262 updates found and ready for installation. Turns out that zippo other than (extreme) patience is required for the problem to sort itself out. Information technology might be worth adjusting your ability settings so that your surface does non go to sleep and hence interrupt the search. Good luck and hope information technology works out for you.- #3
The first time I resetted Windows was just afterwards purchasing my Surface, brand new Win on and I used my surface for near a week, researched for updates and installed it (firmware update and something like 76 starting time and 35 later on) till the Windows RT viii.1 update (1).
I realized something was wrong as soon as Windows Store started giving me the same network fault for each app I was trying to install. Looking for windows update was stuck on "Checking for update" for more than 1 hour (standby time on AC plugged in setted to never). Latest update available for the Surface RT is the Windows RT 8.1 Update three.
Restored Windows, kept my apps but removed all the updates. Windows Store worked again, same for Updates. Installed two cycles (just like before) and once again same situation... Windows Shop started giving me the same network error for each app I was trying to install, looking for windows update was stuck on "Checking for update" for more than than one hour (standby time on Ac setted to never).
I tried every gear up coming up on the web: wsreset, windows troubleshooting app for windows update and windows app and even deleting the SoftwareDistribution folder.
At this signal I chatted with an MS apply through Surface help web page. She suggested me to reinstall a fresh windows copy from Microsoft web site using a USB drive and so I did...
Yesterday night it all came back, second cycle of updates, Windows Store started giving me the same network mistake for each app I was trying to install, looking for windows update was stuck on "Checking for update" for more than ane hr (standby time on AC setted to never). I once again tried all the fixes, nothing worked and and then I restored Windows keeping my apps.
I'thousand now typing from my Surface, merely restored but no updates installed yet. I'm really getting upset to MS for all this ****. Promise y'all get more than luck.
Next calendar week I won't demand my Surface to much and so I may try looking for updates for more than 24 hours and see if I tin get out of this updates cycle.
Looking frontward for better news and know if thing are working for you.
P.S. Text me the link you were talking nigh.

Last thing I did yesterday was:
1. Flush DNS "ipconfig /flushdns"
2. Run Windows Update troubleshooting
iii. Checking for updates
And again is was stuck for hours till I gave upward and shut information technology down.
The main difference is that flushing in DNS clear the Windows Update cache and then it now looks like no updates are installed and updates history is blank.
Nothing changed tho. I guess MS removed (or blocked?) updates afterwards Update one.
Somewhere, somehow, I've red information technology's possible to "cook" your own ISO of Windows RT including major updates.
I'll observe more out.

I checked once more last night (48 hours) and again this morning. The Windows update bar was yet scrolling away doing nothing. However, when I right clicked to shutdown, I at present had option to 'Upsate and restart'. Choosing this it began installing 183 updates. This was all done with Surface2 plugged in, slumber set to never, running via Wifi to 1GBps fiber broadband. I'k merely happy it actually did something. Information must exist drip-feeeding in using BITS at inperceptibly slow rate. Then good news, it can work but just barely.
Wish you lot luck with yours. Hopefully @never_released tin provide us an alternative OS solution in near future.
Nifty news. What would y'all propose now? I tin't allow my Surface RT plugged for 2 days 'cause I need it, however I was thinking about pluging information technology in and let it cheque for updates during the night time, should be about x hours per twenty-four hours, and repeat this process till I find the magic "Update and Restart" button takes over the classic restart.
I've alwyas been checking using the metro Windows Update and non the Desktop's ane.

I've contacted Microsoft for this problem, and after hours, maybe days of troubleshooting they finally came to the decision that its pretty abrasive.
Nevertheless I did a request for making new system images (for the RT devices) since they are not supported past updates anymore.
The request has been sent and awaiting response. Let'south all hope that my request will be become through and we volition become new recovery images which are upwards-to-appointment anywhere soon.

Its not confirmed yet, only it might be worth to mention.I've contacted Microsoft for this problem, and later hours, maybe days of troubleshooting they finally came to the conclusion that its pretty annoying.
Nevertheless I did a asking for making new system images (for the RT devices) since they are not supported by updates anymore. The asking has been sent and awaiting response. Let's all hope that my request will be get through and we will get new recovery images which are up-to-date anywhere before long.
Please keep the states updated!
Looks like that the ony way to get trought this at the moment is to merely let your Surface check for updates, AC pluged, never fix to sleep, for something about 30-40 hours till, yet checking for updates, opening the shutdown menu shows the "Update and Restart" option.

I've gotten through most 3 sets of updates further so I've gotten before. This time I didn't utilise my Microsoft account and only made a local account and I simply installed the i that were motorcar ticked I figure I've don't virtually 120 updates at present. Information technology'due south checking for updates atm but hopefully past morning it'll be done.Mine also had many failed updates in the get-go batch of 64. Go on doing update/restarting. In one case you lot go through that initial batch, they seem to more/less succeed after that.

oh well thanks for that. I but hope that maybe they will make a recovery prototype with all the updates pre-applied. or fifty-fifty unlock it for us merely that'southward just being hopeful.

Edit- but afterwards typing this they put me in contact with someone from the surface section. hopefully they can aid set these issues.

Mine won't fifty-fifty fix information technologyThe Windows Update Troubleshooter ever says Service Registration Missing or Corrupt. Even on a freshly recovered Surface RT/2.It claims to fix the problem. Run it again, it detects no issue. But this just lasts until you restart. Later restart, it behaves aforementioned equally earlier. I think the Troubleshooter is actually but incorrect.
